A contract deal with the Chicago Teachers Union is unlikely before Monday, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said Saturday, suggesting the ongoing strike is likely to extend into next week.
Speaking to reporters Saturday afternoon as negotiations continued, Lightfoot said, “I would be very surprised if classes were opened on Monday, but we will check in with CPS and get the word out one way or another.” She added, as reported by CBS, “My expectation is that we will not be back in class on Monday.”
Negotiations are slated to continue Sunday as well. The strike began on Thursday morning.
