Homecoming 2013: A night to remember

Just a few hours after the Homecoming game, Payton’s 2013 Homecoming dance began. The theme this year was space.

Across the atrium hung black streamers and bright lights. The night sky covered the lockers. Large pillars were covered in stars. Planets were everywhere – around the school and in the crowd.

The dance’s DJ, for the second year in a row, was alum Betty Nguyen, who graduated with the class of 2012. Payton students were also able to hear senior Jason Meekins drop a few beats as he temporarily took over the DJ table midway through the dance.

With around 600 tickets sold, by 8:00 p.m. the atrium was completely filled. People were dancing, singing, and jumping everywhere as their favorite tune came on.

For a break or to people watch, many students went to the second floor. Some students grabbed a drink or a bite to eat and relaxed at one of the tables; other students peered over the atrium, watching their peers dance the night away.

With about an hour left to go in the dance, the Homecoming Court was announced.

The Freshman Lord and Lady were Gabriel Susich and Hannah Mularczyk.

The Sophomore Duke and Duchess were Dylan Moore and Diamond Merrell.

The Junior Prince and Princess were Alejandro Jimenez and Marlee Nork.

The Senior King and Queen(s) were Evan Ciurcina, Sam Sylvander, Morgan Barnes, and Bella Yeung.

The dance was definitely a way for grades to have fun together.

“It was nice to see the grades interacting with each other,” said junior Emma Oehring.

At 10:00 p.m. the dance concluded, bringing an end to a great night.
