Blackhawks vs. Predators
Saturday night, the Nashville Predators took the Blackhawks into OT at the United Center, before the Hawks pulled out a win. Captain Jonathan Toews’ put back his own rebound on a shorthanded breakaway to win the game.
Scoring in only the first period and overtime, the Hawks had more than forty minutes of scoreless play time to evaluate. Going into Saturday’s game still feeling “confident” about Hawks’ power plays and then going 0-for-5, feelings changed admitted Toews: “That’s not how we wanted to come out tonight.” The negative takeaways from Saturday’s game are evident, but the positives should not be overlooked. Johnny Oduya beat Carter Hutton on the first shot of the game to put the Hawks on the the board early, only 1:49 into the game.
Blackhawks vs. Flyers
Tuesday night the Blackhawks squared up against the Philadelphia Flyers, winning with a 4-0 shutout win. Raanta subbed in flawlessly for Crawford who is out with an upper-body injury. Raanta made 32 saves in his first game of the season and second career shutout. Scoring came late in the first from Brandon Saad at 11:54, Patrick Kane at 12:26, and Bryan Bickell at 14:00. The fourth and final goal was later scored by Kane early in the third at 3:50. Tuesday’s win built a lot of confidence for the Hawks who will face up against Nashville Thursday night.
With Tuesday’s game aside the Hawks are currently 4-0-1, nine a seven out of the possible ten points. The looming schedule ahead features the Hawks playing eight games in 13 days. Hopefully this bulk of games can form a winning rhythm.
