Although leaves are just starting to change colors, pumpkin panic is in full swing. Here is a quick guide to taste the best pumpkin around Payton.
- Pumpkin Donut (Dunkin Donuts): Those who annually look forward to Dunkin’ Donuts’ fall pumpkin menu won’t be disappointed. The glazed pumpkin cake donut is back, packed with all of the flavor fans remember. Dunkin’ Donuts has reintroduced the classic cake ring and has pumpkin flavored glazed Munchkins. In a recent press release, the franchise commented that, “To help people celebrate pumpkin’s return, this week Dunkin’ Donuts will host special “Pumpkin Peeks” celebrations at a half dozen Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants across the country.” Although none of the official celebrations are happening in the Chicago area, you can get pumped by trying one of their new treats in any store, including at 309 W Chicago Ave and 1201 N Clark St.
- Pumpkin Pie Yogurt (Yogurtland): An ice cream shop usually doesn’t scream “fall”. However, Yogurtland’s pumpkin pie flavor has consistently been met with praise and approval. According to an article by PR Web, the yogurt is “a non-fat, gluten-free treat made with real pumpkin and the perfect combination of spices.”As of October 15th, 2015, 14,602 people have already liked the pumpkin pie icon on the Yogurtland menu on their official website, making it the sixteenth highest liked flavor out of on the website. Yogurtland’s team of “Flavorologists” have worked hard to make sure the pumpkin pie flavor tastes genuine and sweet. Payton students can taste the “real pumpkin and perfect combination of spices” for themselves at the Yogurtland on 1 West Division St., less than ten minutes from Payton.
- Pumpkin Muffin (Dunkin Donuts): Another pumpkin flavored goodie available on Dunkin Donut’s fall lineup is the pumpkin muffin. Topped with lattice streusel, this baked good can brighten up any hungry commuter’s breakfast. In past years, people tried to replicate the recipe when the fall menu left stores. Pick one up at 309 W Chicago Ave and 1201 N Clark St.
- Pumpkin Spice Latte (Starbucks): Starbucks has brought back their famed pumpkin spice latte again this autumn. The classic recipe was tweaked for 2015:: real pumpkin and no caramel coloring. But was the tweak necessary? Allie Merriam, a journalist for Popsugar, says that the “ real pumpkin added a richness to the texture, which was seriously satisfying. I could taste the spices, the cinnamon, clove, ginger, and nutmeg”. However, in a recent Facebook Q&A session, Hillary Clinton admitted that she’s no fan of the PSL after realizing how many calories are in the drink. According to the Washington Post “a grande [smallest size]…with 2 percent milk [is]: 310 calories and seven grams of fat”. The drink officially became available on September 8th this year in both the U.S. and Canada, and can be enjoyed on 39 W. Division St. and 1220 N. Wells St.
