This year’s fall sports at Payton have found success as our fall athletes achieved many things throughout the season. The Payton Football Team won the conference championship after beating Clark 17-16 and was also featured in a Chicago Sun Times article for star players Andrea Reyes ‘23 and Isa Katz ‘24 for “show[ing] that girls can play football” too.

Boys varsity soccer had a season to remember after winning their first ever city championship by beating Washington 3-1 in a game televised by WCIU at Lane Stadium. Payton then went on to win the regional championship and the sectional championship, beating Solorio 2-0.

The Girls Varsity Cross Country Team came in 2nd in the city championship while Josephine Dziedzic ‘23 now holds the school record for a 3 mile race with 17:54.6 minutes. She is the first female student at Payton to run a sub-18 3 mile race. The Girls Freshman Cross Country team came in first and the JV team took second. The JV Boys Cross Country Team came in second place, Varsity finished 3rd. Ritvak Viniak ‘23 now holds the school record with a 15:34.5, 3 mile-time. Boys cross country also clinched the regional championship. Both girls and boys cross country teams made state and had a pep rally before school on Thursday, November 4.

Payton’s 16’’ inch Softball team also won their city championship while the Boys Golf Team won the CPS Championship. Girls Tennis had a successful season as Maya Jha ‘23 won 4th in state.

The Varsity Girls Swim team got 3rd at city and the Freshman and Sophomore Girls Swim team got 2nd. Now that the fall season is coming to an end, we hope to have a successful winter sports season too. Go Grizzlies!
