The Black History Month was presented by Black Student Coalition and facilitated by student leaders.

On Feb. 14, the Payton community came together to celebrate Black culture and history at the Black Student Coalition’s annual Black History Month Compass. In addition to informative presentations from student leaders, the event featured performances from The Dancing Divas of Payton, Black Chamber Ensemble, the Afro-Brazilian martial art of capoeira, Black Chamber Ensemble and Kenwood Academy’s Choir.

The Dancing Divas of Payton opened the Compass with their performance, receiving loud cheers and applause from the audience (1-4). Principal Shabazz addressed the school midway through the Compass (5). Black Chamber Assemble, which performs the work of underrepresented Black composers, played a piece for the school (6). Natan Hatcher ‘26 led a brief workshop on the Afro-Brazilian martial art of capoeira (7-8). A guest choir from Kenwood Academy performed several of their choral pieces (9-12).
