As the school year comes to a close, the Payton community prepares to enter a new chapter while bidding farewell to many remarkable and inspiring seniors. I had the opportunity to sit down with Junhui Guo, a graduating senior, to reflect on his high school journey and share his insights and future plans with fellow students.
Paw Print: First off, where are you going for college?
Junhui: Massachusetts Institute of Technology or MIT.
Paw Print: What are you majoring in?
Junhui: Computer science.
Paw Print: Why are you majoring in computer science?
Junhui: I like computer science. I’ve worked on Selenium. I’ve done programming competitions and I’ve done game projects before and I just really like making things. Also, I’m really interested in exploring AI.
Paw Print: What are you most looking forward to in MIT?
Junhui: Exploring new topics. There are some undergraduate research programs. Those seem really interesting. There’s a program I’m looking forward to called UROP where undergraduates get to work with professors.
Paw Print: What did you do in Payton that contributed to your growth as a person? What was the most impactful one and why?
Junhui: I would say Math Team because at the beginning of freshman year, I wasn’t really that motivated to work on things, but having a community in Math Team where people worked together and learned math and improved: that really helped me grow throughout my high school years.
Paw Print: What will you miss most about Payton?
Junhui: My friends, the general community, especially Math Team.
Paw Print: Lastly, any advice for underclassmen?
Junhui: Work hard on things you’re passionate about.
Paw Print: Thank you so much for your time.
Junhui: No problem.
